호주 개발자, NFT 불법복제 성공 (NFT는 튤립인가?)

1. IT전문 매체인 가트너(Gartner)에서 매년 발표하는 Hype-Cycle이라는 것이 있다. 일명, 과장곡선으로 신기술이 시간에 따라서 어떻게 사회에 받아들여지는 지에 대한 해석이다. 신기술이 처음 도입되면 언론을 통해서 빠르게 번지고, 기술의 완성도와 실용성을 떠나 기대과잉과 과잉투자가 발생한다. 이후 기대가 실망으로 바뀌고 한동안 잠잠하다가, 생산성의 평원에 도달하면 다시 기대(대중의 인식)이 증가한다.

 

2. NFT Bubble은 이러한 기술혁신의 사이클 관점에서 이해할 수 있다. 대량 주조된 픽셀이미지를 NFT라고 해서 고가에 거래하는 행태가 끝나고, 보다 실용적인 형태로 세분화된 적용례가 등장하고 일상에 녹아들 것이다. 

 

Even though no new technology can get by without bubble formation and violent correction phases, there are good reasons to believe that this will not happen on a larger scale with NFT anytime soon. Innovation cycles seem to be particularly fast in NFT evolution. So much innovation is coming down the pipeline for the entire sector to be at risk of entering a downward phase on time.

 

While simple images by crypto-savvy Noname artists have passed their zenith, other NFT sectors are just getting started. So it would be a mistake to generalize about the NFT ecosystem. Rather, the NFT sector can be broken down into many individual sub-sectors, such as, among others: Digital Art, Lifestyle and Brands, Gaming, Music, Phygital (= physical and digital) Items et cetera.

3. NFT Bubble 세태에 대해 호주 출신의 개발자가 이더리움과 솔라나 네트워크 상의 NFT 이미지를 모두 다운받아 해적사이트에서 제공하고 있다. 그의 주장처럼 현재의 NFT 광풍은 단순한 하이퍼링크에 열광하는 행태일 수도 있다. 

 

4. 확실한 것은 위메이드의 미르의 전설4가 P2E(Play to Earn) 모델을 성공시키며 보여주었듯이, NFT를 비롯한 불록체인 기술은 단순한 열광이 아닌 실제로 우리 삶에 기여하는 기술로 남게 될 것이다.  

 

NFT 이미지 유출자는 호주 출신의 개발자인 제프리 헌틀리로 그는 자신의 트위터를 통해 "NFT라는 허황되고 부실한 기술에 대한 경고성 의미로 해킹을 벌였다"면서 아무런 가치도 없는 이미지 조각에 수백만 달러가 소모되고 있는 사실을 비판했다. 헌틀리는 자신이 공개한 토렌트 파일이 지금까지 이더리움과 솔라나를 통해 발행된 모든 NFT 이미지들이 모두 포함됐다고 주장했다. 그는 "NFT는 블론체인이 포함되지 않은 단순한 하이퍼링크의 일종일 뿐이다"고 설명했다.
